All Na-tu-ral?!

Alright girls, I'm sharing with you my birthing goal!

Non-medicated! All natural. Nothing doin. This is my goal! Yikes =)

For many reasons. [I will divulge them if you're at all interested]

It is a flexible goal.=) We are not at all opposed to epidurals or c-sections. Any way that safely brings a sweet little one into mommy and daddy's arms is a miracle!

But alas, tis my goal. We have lots of ideas already and will actually be having a doula again. We never thought we would ever have anyone else in the room with us. We always thought it would just be an intimate time for the two (three) of us. Until our dear friends introduced us to the idea and to her! Love you guys=)

But I'm telling you it was amazing. She was incredible and our doc still says to this day that (God 1st of course) she was the reason that we were able to have a vaginal birth, didn't push for forever, and a minimal amount of tearing... I know I cringe at that word too!!! She was as involved or uninvolved as we wanted or needed her to be! And she was our advocate to or told us things that we could ask the doctors or nurses. Things we would have never known that we could ask!

So, has anyone out there done it? Any suggestions? Suggested reading? Anything?=) Ladies?

Even if you don't have any tips, feel free to send out a little prayer, a happy dance, or some fun smiley happy thoughts for me/us (but mostly me!) =)!

We had a very medical delivery with BabyBoy. We had ideas for a (flexible) birth plan that just couldn't happen. Although because of our doula we were able to hold on to a few things=) We have always thought about it as being flexible anyway because God is in control and if something has to change, He knows what's up=) It was actually supposed to be a c-section and then Friday morning doc called and said emergency induction Sat morning! More story to come if anyone is interested=).

I think that is awesome that you are going to shoot for all natural! We are too... But I will say, yesterday at my appt my dr checked my cervix and stripped my membrane... I have never experience a pain so bad... I thought it would be uncomfortable, but no idea that it would be excrutiating.. after that appt I said if labor pains were going to be like the membrane stripping part, the heck with natural... get me an epidural! ha... I more than anything don't want the epi just so that i have more control, but I am a little more open to one now after the torcher! :) You can do it girl.. I watched my sis make it thru three deliveries without one, and delivered close to 10 pound kiddos (she's all of 5'2" 100 lbs).. I have faith in you! :)

sorry that was long!

Wow, you are brave and I admire your bravery in going all natural with having your next baby. I think I could only do that if there were no other options! (But I am the biggest baby EVER).

I don't have babies, but I was in the room for my friends' all-natural birth! It was beautiful and totally sold me on the idea! You can do it! Praying for you!

Oh honey! I have done it both ways and I have to tell you that the epidural was sooooooo worth it! But I have to say too that it was not nearly as bad as I thought natural. I go fast and Claire was born in like an hour so I did not have to endure too much...just keep your options open and you will do fine!!!!

That's awesome you want to go natural... I don't think I'll be able to when I have kids! Too scared! Ha!

Can you explain this doula thing? I keep hearing about it.

That cartoon is too funny! Good luck with your plans, I'm sure there will be many other professionals and moms who can advise on natural births. For me, there is no way I'd do it! :)

I think that is great you want to do a natural birth. I did watch a video on it a few months ago. The women really "experienced" their birth and it didn's seem like they were in a lot of pain...of course they WERE, but compared to the adrenaline you have while giving birth they said it was not so bad. So that is all I know, but let us know how it was if that is what you do!!!! Praying for a safe & healthy delivery!

I had both my kids natural the labor was quick but I had big babies Noah weight 9lbs 10oz. 23 inches long 3hrs labor. Brinsley was 8 lbs 12oz 21 inches long and about 4 hrs labor.

Good luck!

I think that if you can do that, then that is awesome!! I know that I want to have an epidural!! I am however confused about the episiodomy (sp?) aspect. Any suggestions there?

Such a great thing to have a doula! I have been hearing more and more about such great success stories when couples use doulas to help in the birthing process! You are in my prayers for a safe and healthy delivery!

Renee said...

Oh, I loved the epidural! And both of my inductions went great so I can't give any advice on going natural. IF we were going to have a third I would want the same thing - induction and epidural.

I am glad you are flexible on your plan b/c the main goal really is to come home with a healthy baby.

All I can say is that you are way braver than me, it makes me uncomfortable to even think about it. Can't wait to hear what happens!

I feel the same as you do! When (*hopefully*) I become pregnant I hope to be able to give birth completely naturally. I think having a doula there will really help too.

I will keep thinking of you & hope that everything goes well.

I think it is wonderful that you are going to try natural childbirth. I delivered our son naturally with a midwife and it was a wonderful experience. We are planning the same with our second son due in August. I don't have a any book reccomendations but I know there are many out there. Have you looked into Mothering (mag)? That may be a helpful resource.

With our 1st son Witt I called my midwife @ 1 am and she said with a 1st baby we probably had @ 24 hrs to just relax and rest and to call her when the contractions made me want to cry. :)I was suspicious that I was further along than she thought and began to have some intense back labor. UGH!! I paced, breathed, prayed, and rocked on a medicine ball to try to ease the pain. We called back at 3:00 and she said to hold tight. By 5:30 am I told my Hubby, "it's 911 or the hospital, you decide." That certainly got us out the door. Anyway, when we arrived at the hospital @ 6:45 am (25 min drive) I was almost to 7. After some monitoring I got into the tub for a bit which really helped sooo much. They had difficulty getting me out, but once they did I pushed for @ 20 minutes and our sweet little guy made his appearance at 8:32 am. Things went qiuckly for us which was such a blessing. I was in great pain but once I knew it wouldn't get any worse I felt like I could do anything. So many people say "just give me drugs", but if you can do without it is the best thing for your baby and your recovery.

I'm sorry for the "marathon" comment. I'll be praying for you all in this process.

Blessings,
Lauren

I just want to take a minute to encourage you that anyone can give birth naturally. I am a very small person, weighing less than 100 lbs before I was pregnant. I was "forced" to give birth naturally with my son, who ended up weighing 9lbs 10oz. Labor was really intense and I felt like I couldn't endure it anymore. But my husband was there encouraging me telling me I could do it and just when I felt like I couldn't, it was time to push the baby out. Natural childbirth makes you reach out to God when you feel like you can't continue and he brings you through it.
Hope your birth goes well!!

Hey there! I sometimes link to your blog from Sleep is Negotiable, how exciting that you guys moved in so close to the O's! Maybe we can all get together sometime and catch up on things.
I wanted to let you know that I am a HUGE advocate of natural childbirth and you can TOTALLY do it! It is such an awesome experience (and how great to have a doula!) and very empowering. Our daughter's birth was peaceful and wonderful and I am really happy with how things went. I love talking about childbirth and birth plans and could go on forever...(email me if you like, if you don't have my address, AO does). I just wanted to encourage you that a natural birth is definitely possible and having a birth plan is a good idea no matter what kind of birth you are hoping for. Good luck and congrats!
