BabyBoy is 9 months!

BabyBoy had his nine month check up today! He is...

Weight - Just over 18 lbs - just under 25%
Length - 28" - right around 50%
Oh and his head grew and now is just over the 50% too, hehe

The doc said he's doing great, and she suggested we work on getting from his tummy into sitting position. He has the tools just hasn't felt like doing it yet, she said; Daddy and I agree, hehe.

He has added meat to his diet! Yay, we love our meat :) Chicken, ground beef, a little corned beef...and pasta, a little cheese so far, some new fruits and veggies. He loves it all - ok, with the one exception of a chicken/mushroom/pasta dinner that we pureed for him that he didn't seem to care for but ate it better when it was in chunks instead. Eitan thinks that now that he has four teeth he doesn't need anything pureed anymore :).

He got two shots today and they had to prick his finger (on his left hand - hold onto this detail for later) to get some blood for a test (poor sweet guy). After the nurse was done she put an itty bitty bandaid on his itty bitty finger; Eits says he's a big guy, not itty bitty :). So I was holding him while Hubby and I talked with the nurse when I looked over at BabyBoy and saw his mouth closed and it looked like he was chewing on something. I looked at his hand and thought to myself...hmmm...left hand...hand of finger that got pricked...bandaid not sure enough I stuff my finger in his mouth and scoop out a bandaid. We all had a laugh at how quick and cute he was, lol.

Updates :)

1. Teeth - BabyBoy now has TWO top teeth to go with his two bottom ones, they came in one right after the other.

2. Milestone - BabyBoy is crawling! Well, a modified version, not on all fours, but he can sure scurry across a room pretty quickly. He did it the day before we left VA so Grandma could witness it firsthand and Granny, Great Grandma, and the gang got to see the progess a couple days before. :)

3. Travels - We are back from our trip to AZ and had a great time seeing the family.

Getting ready to go into the airport

Eitan was a very good boy and smiled and waved to thank the airline representatives for their help

Having some lunch as a family before we boarded the plane

It's All In The Name - Another Sunny Day

Why did we change our name to Another Sunny Day? With some consideration for security, we have overhauled our blog and took on a new name.

When my Poppop was alive and living in Arizona, he woke up every morning, spread the curtains aside, and said, "It's another sunny day!" Yes, he was said to have pouted all day long each day it rained--which is not very often in Arizona, BUT...

No matter where we live, we want that explanation for our lives too. There's enough complaining and have-to-have the this' and thats in this world. We pray we can live by this motto.

The Sweet Guy

This has been one of the mainstay nicknames Hubby gave little guy. And it is truly holding :) Ok, proud parent moment...

BabyBoy got a bit of a cold on Sat night. We had to go to church for orchestra playing and nursery duty. We didn't want to put BabyBoy in the nursery with a stuffy nose, so he and Eugene went to Teammates. Daddy fed BabyBoy during class and although Sweet Guy he would cough, bc of his stuffy nose, then give a big smile and laugh with his BIG two teeth grins.

Hubby did nursery duty (& did a great job) and I went to Venture with our friends Mike and Emily. BabyBoy didn't have a nap but was just smiling and giggling with almost everybody. While we were waiting for Daddy he started to fuss the tiniest bit, but Uncle Mikey just hummed to him and Eits layed his little head right down. Then Daddy arrived and Sweet Guy was ready to play and was so happy to see him.

Monday we went to the doctor just to check Sweet Guy out before we fly out on Tuesday afternoon for Arizona! Just a cold but he was smiling and laughing at everyone that we passed on the way to the office, in the office, at the doctor, the nurses (who didn't believe he was sick bc he was so happy). Another couple ladies said he was such a social baby. The doctor asked if he would go to him and we said, oh yes, he went right to the doctor and smiled big smiles and tried to play with his stethoscope.

THEN we met Grandma at the mall right to get a bathing suit and shorts for Sweet Guy. He smiled at nearly everyone who walked by. And especially the other children, if he was starting to fuss at all and then saw some other little ones, he stopped looked and smiled. It was so...sweet.

Now let us say that he was not always this way in public. He smiled nearly all day at home but not so much when we would go out. He kept turning little corners and now...he's just full on smiles everywhere we go. :) Sorry for the long way proud parent post!

Where Would We Be Without Music

BabyBoy has had music growing inside him since he became a little garbanzo bean. He has always listened to and been calmed by music, singing, and humming but even more so now.

I was a high school orchestra director so BabyBoy heard the music of the orchestra every day all day. I told my kids they needed to play in tune or they mess our baby up, lol. They said, Mrs. Felts that's a lot of pressure, we can't believe you said that. I told them that if they played out of tune he would just run around in circles or have other oddities like that, hehe.

If little guy fussed in the car, it was difficult to calm him by talking or almost anything. The past couple of days, especially, if he gets a little fussy in the carseat or at sleeptime, we just hum/sing, he stops, listens, lays his head on our shoulder, or lays his head down in his crib. It is so sweet. He makes little sounds as he relinquishes his need to fuss and is calmed by the melodies (or any composition of notes really). Music is an amazing thing!

We visited my college symphony conductor and watched some of his rehearsal yesterday. BabyBoy sat in our arms for almost 45 min. watching Mr. Maiello conduct, talk, and intensely work with the orchestra. He sat mesmerized! He would look at Eugene, me or my Mom, smile and then quickly look back to watch Mr. Maiello. It brought tears to my eyes becuase it meant so much to me that he was so interested and amazed by the process of music making. I miss being on the podium myself but am excited to and hope to continue to be able to bring Eitan to see rehearsals, worship time at church, and anything available to keep him smack dab in the middle of music.

Over sleepless nights and naps? Ok, please stick with me and see if any of this sounds familiar to you, please tell me it does!

Since we haved moved to our temporary dwelling place we have had many interesting nights and naps. Here is the odd progression...For the first few nights, BabyBoy slept great! Even slept later than usual. The next couple nights, he woke up for a couple of hours - with us going in to comfort 2-3 times (because of extra influence and influence for extra night feedings...we are all for it if we think he is having a growth spurt or just really needs it). He slept through the night for the following couple of days. Then many awakenings for nearly a week, which brings us to

A tired husband, who is working very hard, taking care of his family, and trusting God but also anguishing (we are human) over where we are to reside next (boy does that take a lot out of you).

We have adapted our approach to comforting BabyBoy over the past 8 months of his little life as we have seen what he needs. We started off just after he came home from the hospital with the whole falling asleep in his crib, not picking him up out of his crib, the 5, 10, 15 min rule (give or usually take a few minutes) if he woke up in the middle of the night.

We have always said he had become a good sleeper and napper. Then, he started teething; cue the first set of waking up at night. Then he learned to roll over from tummy to back; cue the second round of waking up at night. Then we started moving, weird naps, sleeping in pack n play at new house; cue continuation of night wakings. There were days in between all of this that he was still sleeping through the night but not as he was before...although now we look back and are trying to remember when those days were and how many consecutively that he actually was sleeping his 12 hours in a row.

So, last night, sure enough he woke up. I went in once after about 5 min, rubbed his back and hummed for a few seconds, told him I loved him and to go back to sleep. He got quiet but still kept going. 10 min later, repeat. About 15 min later, repeat. We had to re-teach him that we are there when he wakes up but that he needs to fall back asleep without being taken out of his crib (he is back in his crib now, out of the pack n play that he was in for a week and a half). He said ok :) and went back to sleep after a little under an hour! (though he did wake up a bit earlier in the morning than normally)

His second nap today (naps lately have been on the very short side with no falling back asleep)..there was yard work going on outside :) We got back from going to the park - what a gorgeous day! - BabyBoy had fallen asleep in the car. I brought him upstairs awake, took him into "his" room, cuddled for a moment, put him in his crib tucked him in, rubbed his back, hummed for a moment, said the I love yous, and left. Not a peep! About 1 hr and about 15 min he was awakened by noise outside. Lately, if he wakes up from a nap there is no falling asleep. I went in after a few minutes, did the described above, turned the music up and left. Still going 10 min. later. Went back in, repeat above, and he fell back asleep!!! I have cracked his newest code, which was the old code, which may still be the future code. He is still asleep, I put him down around 1:15 and it is now 3:40!
